You’re a loyal bunch

September 28th, 2009 by Ailsa

Check it out – the vast majority of ye have been watching Home and Away since the original Tom and Pippa were knocking about.  That’s loyalty.  Sally was only a nipper then and Milco was just an imaginary friend.

Home and Away has outlasted Glenroe, El Dorado and the Sopranos.  What’s it got that they don’t?  Well, they didn’t have Morag, for one.

I think maybe its so popular because when they started showing h&a on good ol network 2 there was nothing else on, cos in my house anyway we only had the 2 channels so it was mandatory viewing of an evening, now ppl have too many things to be watching to build up a loyalty like the one a lot of ppl of a certain age have to h&a, that and its so ridiculous a lot of the time i can’t wait to see what goes on next

I ‘wasn’t allowed’ watch H&A as a kid (always did tho)-hilarious to think it was considered a bad influence-surely it’s too far from reality! I think the reason people stick with it is because it’s like one of those great old friends that you don’t see for years but always can pick up where you left off.

I remember I was banned from watching H&A around the time Irene allowed one of her fosterinos (Selina maybe?) have her boyfriend stay the night. Had to beg and plead to watch the episode where Shane died. Been watching again ever since!!

Trip down memory lane, Saul kidnaps Selena.

  5. strikemeroan Says:

That was some *quality* acting from the cop. This is from the days before YCPD were characters. I think Irene is still driving the same old banger.

  6. Flathead Says:

I love Irene’s car. The charger? Shannon was a bit of a babe. Don’t remember much about long haired Alex.

  7. Ailsa Says:

Aww Shannon was about 14 there! Is that the car that flattened Irene’s fella in later years?

  8. strikemeroan Says:

Shannon vaguely reminded me of Annie in that clip for some reason

I’d forgotten it was called The Charger. Irene was much cooler back then. I think Alex was Shannons boyfriend when she turned lesbian with Mandy. I miss Selena, apparently herself and Tug write books together. Everyone from home and away seems to write books, Ailsa writes them too and Morag. Maybe Martha is writing a book about Bikies and thats why she was hanging around with them.
